Crunching and pain when turning the neck, limited mobility, headaches - all these are signs of cervical osteochondrosis.Relieving symptoms with analgesics does not solve the main problem, so an integrated approach is required.Home treatment combines folk remedies, massage, exercise and other measures.

Drug treatment
Traditional treatment of cervical osteochondrosis includes the use of the following drugs:
- painkillers and anti-inflammatory medications;
- chondroprotectors;
- warming ointments;
- anesthetic gels;
- Vasodilators.
Such therapy is usually aimed at alleviating symptoms.
do exercises
Osteochondrosis is considered incurable and physical activity is the only measure that contributes to stable remission.The main requirement for achieving results is regularity and consistency.
Therapeutic exercises help prevent and stop the development of osteochondrosis.Exercise accelerates blood circulation in the cervical spine, which leads to better nutrition of all tissues.
Important!It is not recommended to start a set of exercises in severe pain.
Effective exercise therapy complex:

- Starting position: Sitting on a chair with your back and neck straight.Slowly turn your head toward your left and right shoulders (five to 10 times).
- The starting position is the same: gently lower your head down until it touches your chest and back (10 times).Tilting the back of the head backwards is not recommended as this is harmful to the neck.
- The starting position is the same, make gentle circular movements of the head left and right (three to five times).
- The starting position is the same, move the neck and chin back parallel to the floor line (10 times).The neck should not stretch.These movements are particularly useful for people who work at a desk in a position where their head and neck are positioned forward.
- Starting position: sitting at the table, one hand resting with the elbow on the table.Place your temple on your palm and press your head onto it, resisting with your hand (five to ten approaches for ten seconds, pause for ten seconds).
- Starting position: sitting at the table, back and neck straight.Press your forehead into your palm and provide counter resistance with your hand (five to ten approaches of ten seconds each, ten seconds rest).The exercise develops the habit of sitting correctly at the table.
- Starting position: standing, back straight, arms along the body.Raise your shoulders up and hold for ten seconds, then slowly lower them (ten approaches).This perfectly relaxes and stretches the neck muscles.
- Starting position: lying on your stomach, arms along your body.Slowly raise and lower your head and rest for twenty seconds (ten times).
During classes, you should not make sudden movements of the cervical spine.You should also not feel uncomfortable or overexert yourself.This complex of physiotherapy for osteochondrosis should be carried out daily.
Exercises with a bottle
A plastic bottle with water can serve as an excellent equipment for cervical exercises for osteochondrosis.
You need to choose a 1.5 liter cylindrical eggplant without any protrusions or ribs.To keep it soft, it is filled with 80% water.
Lie on your back, place your arms along your body and place the bottle under your neck.Do the following exercises:
- head movements forward/backward (5 times);
- leisurely turns of the head to the left/right (5 times);
- Describe circles with your head to the right and left (5 times).

Warming up the neck with a bottle can be alternated with other gymnastic exercises.
Therapeutic massage
Massage is the main method of home treatment of osteochondrosis.It relieves spasms, increases blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, and reduces inflammation.With regular use, neck mobility is restored.
Self-massage has proven useful for osteochondrosis of the neck, as this area is most convenient for massaging.
Important!You should never put pressure on the spine itself.
Self-massage techniques for neck osteochondrosis:

- Sit in a chair or lie on the floor and massage the neck muscles and the back of the head with your fingers.Then work on the area above and between the shoulder blades.If you have a headache, lightly massage the temple area over the ear to the back of the head.
- Sit at the table with the elbow of your left hand resting on the table and the index finger of your other hand feeling the muscles on the right side of your neck.Painful areas should be kneaded well in circular movements.Repeat the same thing on the back and then massage the cervical bump.
- Run the edge of your palm along the neck from bottom to top and then to the shoulders.Switch hands.
- Tense the muscles in the neck and collar area.
The procedure begins and ends with gentle stroking of the neck and shoulders.
Roll a rolling pin
In the past, a regular rolling pin was used to treat neck pain.You need to lie on it and roll it under you.However, this method is unacceptable during periods of exacerbation of osteochondrosis.
Massage with honey
Heat some honey in a water bath (not above 40°C) and apply to the neck and collar area.Then you need to “stick” your palm to the body and tear it off.The massage is carried out until signs of skin redness appear (no more than 10 minutes).After that, the remaining honey and dirt should be washed off and the neck should be wrapped.

Repeat the process 2 times a week.Such massage is contraindicated in hypertensive patients.
Traditional medicine
The arsenal of folk remedies for the treatment of osteochondrosis includes compresses, rubs, ointments, herbal decoctions and tinctures.They are inexpensive, effective and cause minimal side effects.
Before using these recipes, you must consult a doctor.
Compressed
Compresses warm up, relieve tension in the neck and shoulder muscles and significantly relieve pain due to osteochondrosis.
Idea!Instead of cellophane, burdock or cabbage leaves can also be used for sealing.
Variations of compresses for the treatment of osteochondrosis:

- Grate raw potatoes and mix in equal parts with liquid honey.Apply to neck, cover with plastic and wrap.Keep for about 1-2 hours.
- Steam 1 tablespoon finely chopped burdock leaves with 1 cup boiling water.When the broth has cooled to an acceptable hot temperature, strain and soak gauze (natural fabric) folded in several layers in it.Keep the compress for 20 minutes, then remove it and wrap your neck in a scarf.
- Add 1 tablespoon of a mixture of crushed herbs (dandelion, burdock leaves and St. John's wort) to 1 glass of boiling water and place in a water bath for 15 minutes.When the broth has cooled to about 60°C, strain and make a compress.Keep for about half an hour.
- Place a piece of cloth soaked in kerosene on the neck, cover it with cellophane and insulate it with a layer of cotton wool on top.The exposure time is one hour.
- Bake a flatbread made from oat, rye or whole wheat flour and place it comfortably hot on the painful area, cover it and let it cool.This manipulation can be done once or twice a day.
- Alcohol compress: Combine fifty grams of aloe juice with four tablespoons of honey and one hundred milliliters of vodka (alcohol).After thirty minutes the mixture is ready to use.Apply the composition to a damp cloth and apply to the neck overnight.The specified amount is enough for the entire treatment.
Compresses work especially well when osteochondrosis worsens.
Rub
Rubbing is convenient because you don't have to sit for a long time with cellophane and your neck wrapped.Rubbing promotes blood circulation and the alcohol in the composition allows the ingredients to penetrate the skin more quickly.
Rubbing when sick:

- Pour in a glass of grated radish, half a glass of honey, two tablespoons of salt (coarse) and 250 milliliters of vodka.This tincture should be rubbed onto the affected area twice a day for a week.This remedy can be taken orally, one teaspoon on an empty stomach, twice a day.
- Mix equal parts ground mustard, vodka, camphor alcohol and egg whites from three eggs.This composition should be massaged in overnight.It helps well with chronic osteochondrosis.
- Mix 300 ml of alcohol, 10 ml of iodine and camphor alcohol.This recipe is for pain relief.
- Mix red elderberries with alcohol (1:4) and let steep for a week, strain.The composition is also suitable for compresses, but must be diluted with water in a ratio of 1:4.
Important!After rubbing the heated neck area, you need to wrap it with a warm, soft scarf (made of fleece).
Alcoholic formulations should not be used on external skin lesions.
Anoint
Ointments made from natural ingredients are inexpensive and easy to use.Due to the viscous consistency, the composition stays on the skin longer.
Ointments for treatment:

- Mix equal parts of soft butter, ground ginger root and a clove of garlic.This composition relieves pain in the back of the head and shoulders.
- Dissolve 10 grams of Mumiyo in 1 tbsp.Spoon warm water and mix with liquid honey.To make it easier to use, the ointment should be scooped up with a teaspoon heated over the fire.Painful areas are lubricated and massaged for about 5 minutes, then the application is repeated and rubbed for another 1-2 minutes.After the procedure, cover the neck with a layer of cotton wool, polyethylene and a warm scarf.
- 1 tbsp.Mix a spoonful of crushed hop cones in equal parts with softened butter.Rub into the skin 1-2 times a day.
- 2-3 tbsp.Pour a spoonful of crushed oregano (oregano) with 500 ml of vegetable or olive oil, store in a dark place for about 10 hours, squeeze out and rub onto the affected areas.
While applying the ointment, you can lightly massage the neck area.
Recipes for oral administration
External treatment methods can be supplemented by the internal use of beneficial tinctures and decoctions.Many of them have strengthening properties, are rich in vitamins and have an effect on the entire body.
Medicinal compositions for oral administration for osteochondrosis:

- Pour 2 teaspoons of chopped parsley roots with 2 cups of boiling water and simmer over low heat for about an hour, strain.Take 1 tbsp.Spoon in the morning and evening before meals.
- Grind dill and parsley seeds and leave in a water bath for 15-20 minutes.Take the resulting decoction 1 teaspoon in the morning on an empty stomach.
- Sprinkle fresh pine buds (up to 2 cm) with sugar (or honey) in a 2:1 ratio.Place the container in a cool, dark place for 2-3 weeks until a dark syrup forms.It is taken 1 tablespoon three times a day.
- Grind 3 lemons in a meat grinder, put 4 cloves of garlic (whole), pour 1.5 liters of hot (60 ° C) water and leave for a day.Take 100 grams of infusion on an empty stomach.
- Chop the pine nuts with the shell on, add vodka and put in a dark place.After 7 days, strain the tincture and take 1 tablespoon per day.
The use of decoctions and tinctures accelerates the recovery process from the acute stage of osteochondrosis.Pine syrup is particularly recommended during this time.It has a strong anti-inflammatory effect.
Supportive treatments
Traditional treatment can be supplemented with water procedures, warming up, visits to the sauna or bathhouse.
Contrast shower

A contrast shower - alternately dousing the cervical vertebrae area with cold and warm water - can significantly improve the condition of osteochondrosis.
Herbal bath
For pain, you can take baths with decoctions of calamus root, birch buds, chamomile and feverfew.A strong decoction is poured into warm water, the session lasts about 20 minutes.This procedure quickly relieves pain and spasms with exacerbation of osteochondrosis.
Hypertension patients and people with cardiovascular problems should not take hot baths.
Sauna and bath
A bathhouse and a sauna must be included in the treatment of osteochondrosis.The paired muscles relax and the tension in the intervertebral discs is released.Before the session, you can grease the neck muscles with honey and wrap them in a towel.It is also recommended to apply heated stones at this point.
You can visit a bathhouse or sauna 1-2 times a week, but outside the acute stage.Otherwise, the “steam bath” will only increase the inflammatory process.
Warm up

Heat relieves pain very well, so the treatment of osteochondrosis is supplemented with warming.For home use, mustard plasters, alcohol (vodka), pepper plasters or pharmaceutical ointments are suitable.You can use cloth bags with hot salt or sand applied to the neck.
applicator
The applicator is a special massager with spikes for the treatment of osteochondrosis.It helps improve metabolic processes in a specific area and relieves pain and inflammation.The applicator is placed under and rests on the neck, stimulating new reflex zones.
The duration of the sessions starts at 1-2 minutes and gradually increases to half an hour.The duration of treatment is 2 weeks.After a break of 7 days, the course can be repeated.This massager should not be used if you have skin diseases in the neck area or a tendency to bleed.
There are several modifications of applicators for reflexology for cervical osteochondrosis.
Leech treatment
Hirudotherapy has proven itself as a technique for treating various forms of osteochondrosis.Hirudin, secreted by leeches, thins the blood, relieves swelling and inflammation, and normalizes the functioning of nerve cells.Hirudotherapy procedures relieve pain, reflexively relax the neck muscles and promote better penetration of drugs to their destination.
Leeches are placed in the most painful places on the neck and shoulders.The number of sessions for osteochondrosis is about 7 with breaks lasting several days.A repeat course will be held in a month.
An integrated approach to the treatment of osteochondrosis at home allows you to achieve stable remission and restore neck mobility.Traditional and alternative medical methods do not replace taking medication prescribed by a doctor.In advanced stages of the disease, self-medication should be avoided.If you experience signs of deterioration, especially numbness in the limbs, dizziness and other serious symptoms, you should seek medical attention immediately.
